Using a modular concept based on open standards it is common practice in the civil sector to integrate subsystems components from different manufacturers into a single modular system. The SOSA™ Technical Standard aims at such an interoperability in embedded computing for military applications. A consortium of government, academic and private-sector enterprises – led by the US Department of Defense – developed The SOSA™ Technical Standard to be a COTS-based open standard that provides reconfigurable, rapidly upgradable, and cost-effective embedded computing capabilities. Based on OpenVPX this new standard is providing a comprehensive architecture that enables the integration and interoperability of components using a modular approach for the design of embedded systems.
