Being originally developed for the ATX PC motherboard standard, higher grade ATX power supplies found common use in 19" packaging technology as entry level power source. ATX power supplies generally have defined dimensions of 150 × 86 × 140 mm (5.9 × 3.4 × 5.5 in).
The ATX specification requires the power supply to produce three main outputs, +3.3 V, +5 V and +12 V. Low-power -12 V and +5 VSB (standby) supplies are also required but typically not used for backplane / chassis applications. Power connection is done via MOLEX / ATX connectors.
